James Franklin Girton, born in Iowa, was the son of Marshall and Elizabeth (Gray) Girton. He married Julia Caroline Crippen 03 Nov 1881 in Polk County, Iowa. They moved to Aberdeen, Washington, in 1893, where he became editor of the Aberdeen Herald.

James died 03 Nov 1898 in Aberdeen, and after his death Julia married John Carney.
