Artist. He was one of the most admired Italian painters of the 20th Century, known for his subtle and contemplative paintings. Working mostly from his studio in Bologna, Italy, his paintings were of simple elements such as bottles, boxes, clock faces and people from his landscapes. Other then taking part in a group exhibitions, he taught drawing in elementary schools (1916-29). In 1930, he became a Professor of Etching at the Accademia di Belle Arti and his work began to be shown abroad. In 1948, he received the first prize for painting at the Venice Biennale Art Show and won the Grand Prize at the São Paulo Biennale in 1957. He died at the age of 73.
