Married to Mary Louis Lawhon on 27 August 1929.

For Ernest Lawhon by H. H. Vogel:

He was a good neighbor, good neighbor indeed. To do you a favor, was ever his creed. He loved plants and flowers, he helped them to grow. He spent many hours, this love to bestow. He, too, was an artist, within his own right. He transferred to canvas, much beauty and light. His friends and his loved ones, will miss him so much. His kind friendly bearing, his humor and such. Like music that echoes a joyous refrain, the Lawhons moved near us across Friendship Lane. With fellowship pleasant the days have seemed few, for time passes quickly when friendship is true. Now Ernest has left us to answer God's Call, and many fond mem'ries will linger with all. When Life's days are over for us who remain, We'll meet our good neighbor on God's Friendship Lane.

Services were held at Salem United Methodist Church at 2:00pm on Saturday, November 13, 1976. The Reverend LeRoy A. Bott and Dr. Henry H. Vogel officiated.
