HONEA PATH, SC-- Clayton A. Ragsdale, Jr., 93, widower of Eleanor Gilliam Ragsdale, of 16 W. Oak Drive, died Friday, June 26, 2009 at his home.
Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Clayton Allen and Mabel Bell Ragsdale. He was a member of the Honea Path First Baptist Church. He retired as Postmaster of the Honea Path Post Office.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, World War II, having served as Master Sergeant in Sicily, Italy, North Africa, France, and Germany. He was a former merchant and town councilman for the Town of Honea Path. He was a member and past-president of the Honea Path Lions Club, having been installed as Secretary-Treasure for his 50th year on June 23, 2009. He was former Commander and Adjutant of the American Legion Post #50. He was a member of the Honea Path Cemetery Foundation board of directors.
He is survived by a son, Clayton Allen (Clay) Ragsdale, III of Honea Path. He was pre-deceased by a son, Donald E. (Don) Ragsdale; an infant son; a brother, Francis "Son" Ragsdale; and a sister, Agnes Pearman.
