First marriage in 1865 was to Col. John E. Stokes, of Montgomery, Ala., an officer in the Confederate Army and had three children. Mr. Elmore Kendall Stokes, a prominent commissioner broker of New York City, he married Louise Minerva Goddin, and Mr. Henry L. Stokes, of Fort Smith, Ark. The third was Miss Flora McDonald Stokes, who married Mr. William P. McGavock, of Wytheville and died in 1898.
