MARQUETTE HEIGHTS ~ Robert Stanley "Stan" Bennett, 81, of Marquette Heights, passed away at 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 19, 2021 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
Born July 15, 1940 in Peoria to Edward E. and Roberta J. (Wotton) Bennett, he married Mary M. DeFord on September 8, 1962 in Peoria. She died October 5, 2007 in East Peoria. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one infant brother, Joseph Bennett and one sister, Donna Matheny.

Surviving are two daughters, Amanda (Dave) Smith of Marquette Heights and Patty (Mike) Vonderheide of Tremont; four grandsons, Nolan (Sarah) Smith of Peoria Heights, Corey (Diana) Smith of Jacksonville, Florida, Jared (Katie) Smith of Rochelle and Brian (Sarah) Vonderheide of Tremont; five great-grandchildren, Amelia Vonderheide, Zion, Eden, River and Aiden Smith; one sister, Naomi R. Smith of Pekin and Victor F. Bennett of Finley, Minnesota.

Stan was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1958 to 1961. He participated in the Greater Peoria Honor Flight in 2017.

He had worked at Caterpillar, Inc. in East Peoria for 30 years, retiring in 1996 and was a member of the UAW Local 974 in East Peoria. He and his wife, Mary owned and operated Bennett's Western Wear in Creve Coeur from 1984 until its closing.

Stan loved traveling, hunting, fishing and woodworking. He also enjoyed square dancing and was a former member of Pekin Circle 8 Club.

He was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin, where he was past president of St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. He was also a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Archbishop Schlarman Council #3507 in Pekin.

His funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 23, 2021 at Preston-Haney Funeral Homes& Crematory in Pekin. Father Michael Andrejek will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin. Military rites will be provided by the United States Navy and Tazewell Military Rites Team.
