DECATUR — Rodney W. Compton, 71 of Decatur, IL peacefully went to be with his Lord on Friday October 26th, 2012 at 9:15 am surrounded by his family.

A visitation will be held on Monday, October 29th from 5 pm – 8 pm at Antioch Christian Church. Rodney's life will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 30th, at 10 am at Antioch Christian Church with a visitation one hour prior, Tim Moore and Pastor Steve Devore will officiate. Military rights will be performed at Point Pleasant Cemetery. The church is located at 5409 E US Rt 36, Decatur, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Antioch Christian Church Beautification Fund.

Rodney was born on January 18, 1941, the oldest son of Wayne and Mary (Morrison) Compton, of Fancher, IL. He married Joy Tucker on July 24, 1960 in Cowden, IL they were married for 52 years.

Rodney attended a year at Sparks Business College. He served in the U. S. Army during the Cuban Crisis and was stationed in Alaska. After leaving the Army, he worked as an office and warehouse manager for Perkinson Company /PC Ltd./ NPK Storage for 38 years. Rodney was an active member of the Antioch Christian Church, was an elder for many years and the financial secretary. Rodney enjoyed volunteering at the Central Illinois Auction in the Antioch Youth food booth. Rodney was a shining example of a good neighbor and friend as he was always willing to help when needed.

A special thanks goes out to the DMH Cancer Care center, to Dr. Kairouz and the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff that cared for and supported Rod and Joy. Also thanks to Safe Haven Hospice and their wonderful staff and to the special nurses and staff of Fairhavens nursing home.

Rodney is survived by his wife, Joy. He was a loving father to his two children, Sonia (Compton) Smith and Randy (Jodie) Compton and a wonderful grandfather to his four grandchildren, Broc Compton, Jessica Smith, Blake Compton and Eric Smith. He is also survived by his brother, Richard (Regina) Compton and sisters, Carol (Howard) Koester, Nancy Compton, Barbara Beck and Shirley (Trent) Buchannan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gene Compton; a brother in-law, Gary Beck and two nephews, Kevin Compton and Brian Banning.
