Michael Buhai, 79, of 203 Dickerson Drive S., Camillus, died Sunday at home.

Born in Syracuse, he lived in Camillus 40 years.

He worked 10 years with General Motors and later at Carrier Corp., where he was active in the plant incentive program.

Mr. Buhai was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II and among the first American soldiers to staff an Allied air base in Russia. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion Post 1540.

He was a communicant of Holy Family Church and a member of its Holy Name Society.

Mr. Buhai also was a member of the Carrier Recreational Club and the American Institute of Industrial Engineers.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, the former Mary Tanchak; a son, Michael S. of Miami Beach; a daughter, Deborah Grosse of Victor; three sisters, Mary Meckowski and Helen Sobotka, both of Syracuse, and Irene Mitzo of Lyncourt; a granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Buranich Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Burial is in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Auburn.

Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
