The United States Department of Defense reported 19-year-old Lance Corporal Bradley Parker died Monday, November 15, 2004 "as a result of enemy action" in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Parker was a 2003 graduate of North Marion High School. He joined the United States Marine Corp in June 2003 and had been awarded the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He has also been recommended to receive a Purple Heart. Parker, a rifleman, was assigned to Bravo Company, First Battalion, Eighth Marine Regiment, Second Marine Division, Second Marine Expeditionary Force based at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. West Virginia Governor Bob Wise ordered all state flags flown at half-staff on the day of Parker’s burial. Governor Wise stated Parker’s bravery and sacrifice brought honor to his family, the people of West Virginia, and his country. Arrangements for Lance Corporal Parker were conducted by the Masters Funeral Home in Mannington, West Virginia. Parker was buried on Wednesday, November 24, 2004, in the View Point Cemetery.
