Samuel "Sammy" H. Ball Jr., 85, of Savannah, GA, died Tue, Nov 16, 2004 at Hospice Savannah, Inc. He was born in Aliceville, AL, and moved to Savannah in 1942. He was a veteran having served in the US Navy, in both WW II in the Pacific as a Radar Man, and the Korean Conflict in the Signal Corps, and retired as a 1st Lieutenant. He was a member of VFW Post #660, Past Commander of American Legion Post # 135, the National Association of Retired Government Employees, Past Chairman of the Veterans Day Parade, Past Member of the Elks Lodge, and Lions Club, and Past Chairman of the Veterans Council. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama, with a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a Registered Engineer in Alabama, Georgia & South Carolina. He retired from the Corps of Engineers & Facility Engineers of Hunter Army Air Field. He served 2 years in Saudi Arabia for the Corps of Engineers. He was a member for over 51 years of Acacia Lodge #454, F.& A.M.'s, the Scottish Rite Consistory - Valley of Savannah, and a member of the Patrol Unit of Alee Shriners.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Zama Simmons Ball of Savannah, GA; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Jackson H. and Linda Ball of Lawrenceville, GA and John R. & Renita Ball of Savannah, GA; brother, Joe Ball of Tuscaloosa, AL; sister, Margaret Clay of Aliceville, AL; and several grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Thu at the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home - Hodgson Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be at 2 pm Fri in the Chapel of the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home - Hodgson Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Steve Megular officiating. Interment in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Chatham, GA. Active pallbearers will be Alee Shrine Patrol Unit. Honorary pallbearers are Members of American Legion Post # 135, and fellow members of the Patrol Unit of Alee Shriners.
