Maria Wilhemina (Philomena) Ricker was the daughter of Johann George and Maria Anna Turner. Funeral record states that she was born in Ohio in December 1, 1852; while US Census records indicate she was born in Ohio in May 1853. As her baptismal entry was not found in the St. John the Baptist church records, it is possible that she may have been born as the family was immigrating to settle in Glandorf, Ohio.

She is listed as George Ricker's daughter in the 1860 US Census, Greensburg Twp., Putnam County, Ohio.

She is listed as Louis Landwher's stepdaughter in the 1870 US Census, Monterey Twp., Putnam County, Ohio.

On 22 Jan 1874, she married John Matthias Hoffmann at St. Johns Church in Delphos, OH.
