Received her education at Nazareth Convent at Bardstown, Kentucky, graduating at age of 16; her family moved to Chicot County, Arkansas in the 1830's where her father and brothers established Gaines Landing. She married a distant cousin, George Pendleton, and settled at Chicora Plantation. Their son, William, died in 1855. After the death of her husband, and throughout the war, she and her daughter continued at Chicora, one of the first plantations in Arkansas raided by Sherman's army.
She wrote "Chicora's Help to Housekeepers" in 1881, the "...first known Arkansas cookbook, and one of the last recipe books to follow the paragraph style.
