Marlene H. Bryan, formerly of Perkasie, PA, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Independence Court of Quakertown, Quakertown, PA. She was 79.

She was the loving wife of the late Paul S. Bryan, Jr., until his passing on May 6, 1995.

Born in Sellersville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Grace (Heukeroth) Hartzell. A life-long learner, she was a 1962 graduate of Pennridge High School and she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Kutztown State College (now Kutztown University), Kutztown, PA, in 1966.

Marlene began her teaching career in the Souderton School District at the Telford Elementary School, Telford, PA, where she taught from 1966 to 1969. After her marriage to Paul in 1968 and starting a family, she became a substitute school teacher in the Pennridge School District for 41 years until retiring in 2011. Marlene taught generations of students in all the elementary schools and special education programs in the district.

Marlene was a member of the former St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Dublin, PA, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a member of the Perkasie Historical Society and was active with the Ridgecrest Craft group that benefitted Ridgecrest Pediatric Services. She also loved organizing many reunions for the Pennridge High School Class of 1962.

She is survived by two daughters, Kristine P. Boor and her husband Paul, of Macomb, MI, and Jill M. Best and her husband Donald, of Quakertown, PA; four grandchildren, Paige Boor and her fiancé Cole Ignaszewski, Nicholas Boor, Veronica Best and Kimberly Best; a brother, David Hartzell and his wife Marjorie, of Sellersville; and three nieces, Rebecca Hartzell and her husband Ryan Kavana, of Quakertown, PA, Carolyn McClure and her husband Tony, of Arizona and Amanda Long and her husband Matthew, of North Carolina and great nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother in infancy.
