George was originally buried in the Wisner Burying Ground, also known as the Old Baptist Cemetery and Main Street Cemetery, in Elmira. Preparations began in 1875 to close the cemetery and create a park. The Gregg family was removed by family members before the city undertook the cost to remove all memorials and remains in the spring of 1876.
