She was the first born child of the marriage of John Freeland and Mrs. Mary Mellen Gibbs, widow of Phineas Gibbs. Her mother had a son, William, and three daughters by her first husband Phineas Gibbs. Her mother and Phineas Gibbs were married in 1757 at Hopkinton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts at Christ (Congregational) Church.

On December 7, 1769, Mary Polly Freeland's parents were married at the same church with intentions posted on November 7, 1769. Mary's parents would have six more children including the last (my ancestor) who was Leonard Freeland, born about 1786. Leonard died at Claverack, Columbia County, New York in 1871 as an old man crippled with arthritis. He outlived his wife Maria Van Deusen. Leonard's brother Phineas Freeland and his sister Sophia Freeland (married Aaron Gifford) also lived in the Claverack area of Columbia County, New York for a period of time along with Mary's parents John Freeland and Mrs. Mary Mellen Gibbs.

Mary Polly Freeland married Capt. Elijah Corbett on April 17, 1789 at Hopkinton, Massachusetts. He had been born on Jan. 5, 1767 at Hopkinton. Elijah Corbett died Oct. 23, 1857 at Buffalo. He IS buried at this cemetery. Mary Polly Freeland and Capt. Elijah Corbett had NINE children that I have found records for. They were: JOHN FREELAND CORBETT, ELIJAH CORBETT, JR., LUCY CORBETT, AARON CLAFLIN CORBETT, WINSLOW CORBETT (buried at this cemetery), MARY MELLEN CORBETT, NANCY CORBETT, SOPHIA GIFFORD CORBETT, AND APPLETON HAZELTINE CORBETT.
