Calvin J. "Cal" Baxter
1931 - 2012
VETERAN

Calvin J. Baxter passed away on October 25, 2012, from complications of congestive heart failure. Calvin was born on January 5, 1931, to Elwood Morton and Nona Kirk Baxter in Orem, Utah.

Calvin learned the value of hard work at a young age working on the family farm. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1949 and went on to graduate from Utah State University with a degree in civil engineering in 1953. On June 4, 1953 Calvin married Orissa "Rae" Wright in the Salt Lake Temple and she has been by his side ever since. Calvin and Rae have three children: Jae Baxter (Christine), Douglas Baxter (Sandy), and Holly Jolley (Glen). Calvin and Rae started their married life in Marysville, California, where Calvin served as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force. In 1956, after Calvin's honorable discharge from the Air Force, he and Rae moved back to Utah and settled in Springville, where they have resided to this day.

Calvin worked at Geneva Steel in various engineering and management positions. He retired from Geneva in 1989 and then went to work for Springville City as head of the Power Department. Calvin worked in that position until his retirement in 2004 at the age of 73.

Calvin was active in church and civic activities. He served on the Springville City Council for three terms, in addition to later working for the city. He served in various positions as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Scoutmaster, bishop and counselor in the stake presidency. He loved the time he spent in his church and civic service and all those with whom he worked and served.

Calvin loved to farm, hunt, fish and spend time with his family. He looked forward to his yearly trips to the High Uintas and to the finals of the National Rodeo.

Calvin is survived by his wife, Rae; his two sons and daughter; his grandchildren: Katie Smith (Jesse), Amy Anderson (Clint), Kellie Roundy (Garret), Christopher Baxter (Jessica), Susannah Baxter, Katherine Baxter, Sean Jolley, Eric Jolley, Jason Jolley, Jennifer Jolley; and his sister, Jean McMillan. He was predeceased by his parents; his stepmother, Jennie Anderson Baxter; two brothers, Leland Baxter and Arvin Baxter; and brother-in-law, Lee McMillan.
