Soviet singer, bass and Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1960). He graduated from the Leningrad Conservatory (1936). In 1917 the mother and younger children moved to Atkarsk Saratov province. In 1921 the family returned to Petrograd, however, due to the hardships of the life then, he with his younger sister was in a children's home, where he stayed until 1926. Starting an independent life, changed a lot. He worked at the mine in the Donbass, then moved to Moscow, and later returned to Leningrad, which was also involved in heavy labor, and was a stoker digger and a cab driver. According to the memoirs he even passed the entrance exam to the technical school of the Leningrad Conservatory, he came to own a cart with a horse. He failed on all subjects, except for the main, the vocals, and he was accepted at the technical school. His teachers were professors I. Tomars, P.Z. Andreev, A.B. Merovich. In the first year of training was invited to I.O. Dunayevsky the Leningrad Music Hall for the execution of several of his songs. He also performed with Jazz Orchestra A. Tsfasman. In 1936, with honors from the Conservatory, he graduate as student, and at its end is to teach, soon became a soloist of the Leningrad Philharmonic, where he worked for 35 years long. He works hard at the Leningrad radio, and became the first performer of many songs by Soviet composers such as G. Sviridov, V. Solovyov-Gray, B. Mokrousov, K. Sheets, T. Khrennikov and M. Blanter etc. In 1960 was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the RSFSR. The artistic heritage of the singer's is available now, more than 100 pieces written by him on records.
