Fred Gardner
Services for Fred Grant Gardner, 79, will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Victoria Community Church in Riverside. He died of emphysema Monday at Riverside General Hospital.
Friends may call from 5 until 9 p.m. today at Acheson and Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary in Riverside.
Private burial will be in Riverside National Cemetery.
Mr Gardner, who was born in Alexandria, NY, lived in Riverside 26 years and previously lived in Albuquerque, NM for 11 years.
He attended Hamilton College and received a bachelor's degree. Later he attended Buffalo Law School in Buffalo, NY, where he received a law degree in 1936.
He worked as an attorney in Batavia, NM for 17 years. He later moved to Riverside and became a probation officer for San Bernardino County. He retired in 1977.
Mr Gardner served in the U.S. Army during World War II and attained the rank of technical sergeant. He received two bronze service stars and a World War II victory medal.
He was a member of Victoria Community Church and its senior and sanctuary choirs. He also belonged to the Cowboys for Christ in Norco. He received the Riverside Volunteer of the Year Award in 1988.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; three daughters, Cheryl Hackler of Osceola, WI, Alice Wylie of Ft Sumner, NM, and Lori Sturgess of Albuquerque, NM: a son, Kevin of Fullerton: a stepdaughter, Jan Villott of Pleasanton: two stepsons, Randy Ferguson of Denver, CO, and Bill Ferguson of Houston, TX; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Gardner of Batavia, NY and Art Gardner of Rancho Palos Verdes.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the music and drama ministry of Victoria Community Church in Riverside.
