Reint was born in May 27, 1867 in Forreston, Ogle County, Illinois, the third child born to Johann "John" R Buss and Fenke Brass.

It was in the Forreston area that Reint met and married "Maggie" Bokker. Reint and Maggie farmed in Illinois until 1909. The then took a train to South Dakota and settled in the Lowell Township, four miles west and three miles south of Britton, Marshall County, South Dakota. They bought a farm here for 28 dollars an acre Reint and Maggie had four children.

*The Britton Journal: REINT J. BUSS DIES SUDDENLY......Heart Attack Fatal to Well-Known Marshall County Resident..........A heart attack, early Sunday morning, caused the death of Reint J. Buss, Marshall county citizen. Mr. Buss passed away at his home in Britton around three A.M., while getting a drink of water at the kitchen sink. The attack was very sudden and he fell to the floor, never regaining consciousness. He had been in falling health during the past several years. He was 76 years of age at the time of his death. Funeral services were conducted this afternoon from the Presbyterian church at two P.M., with Dr. J Henry Irwin, officiating. Acting pallbearers were Nels Wallace, H.A. Symens, Percy Wallace. Claus Reyelts, J.D. Freudenthal and Wm. Semple. Interment was made in the Britton Cemetery. Reint J. Buss was born May 27,1867 in Forreston, Illinois. He grew to young manhood in Forreston and on Dec. 12, 1890, was married to Margaret "Maggie" Bokker. The couple came to South Dakota 37 years ago and took up residence on a farm in Lowell township,Marshall County. Due to ill health they were forced to give up farming and moved to Langford, where they resided for three years. During the past year they have made their home in Britton. Immediate survivors are his wife and three children, John and Frank, of Britton and Mrs Beulah Willison, of Bellingham, Wash. One daughter, Della Aukes, passed away in 1924. Also left to mourn his loss are 10 grandchildren, three brothers, Joe and John Buss of Forreston, Ill., and three sisters, Mrs. N. DeWall, Mrs. John Buntjer and Mrs. Mark Conrad, all of Forreston, Ill.
