The Current Local, Van Buren, Missouri, June 3, 1954, Front Page, Col. 1: Aged Ellsinore Citizen Passes To The Beyond. John L. Walker, age 85, died at his home on Ellsinore Route 2, Tuesday of last week, following a brief illness. He is survived by one son, Guy Walker and one daughter, Mrs. Jessie Million, both of Ellsinore. Mr. Walker was born in Iron County December 25, 1868. Most of his long life, however, was spent in Southeast Missouri, and for the past 33 years he had lived on Big Brushy Creek near Ellsinore. His wife preceded him in death 36 years ago. Known all through this community as Uncle John Walker, he was one of the most highly respected and well loved citizens of this area. he had been a member of the General Baptist Church for many years. Funeral services were conducted at the Dry Hill Community Church Wednesday afternoon by Rev. C. Coleman of Piedmont and Burial took place at the Gresham cemetery near the church. Pall bearers were chosen from among the grandsons and great grandsons. McSpadden Home was in charge.
