Dorace Jane Fike Wilson passed away October 21, 2012, the 67th anniversary of her marriage to Logan L. Wilson.
Dorace was born in Independence, Mo., in 1925, the youngest of Bethana and Lyman Fike's seven children.
She was a graduate of East High School and Graceland College.
Dorace and Logan had four children, 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Her more than 60-year employment history included news writer; secretary to the president of Fike Metal Products;
Executive Secretary of Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce; Executive Director of Community Services League; founder of Square One, a public relations service to the merchants of Independence Square; Chair and member of the Jackson County Board of Zoning Adjustment; and Manager of the Nearly New Shop.
Committed to civic involvement, her volunteer work spanned Mid-America Assistance Coalition, Jackson County Inter-Agency Council; Mid-America Regional Council on Aging; Habitat for Humanity; Kiwanis; Presbyterian Children Services; Democratic National Committee and many more.
She was honored as Outstanding Citizen of Blue Springs in 1976; recognized for outstanding leadership by Missouri
Municipal League and City of Independence; Neighborhood Council's Community Builder Award and People's Choice Award; Human Service Award of Jackson County Inter-Agency Council; Woman of Achievement Award from Independence Business & Professional Women; and Comprehensive Mental
Health Services Community Service Award.
In 2011 she received the Volunteer of the Year Award from the Jackson County Historical Society for her work at the Jackson County Jail and Museum.
She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Independence.
She is survived by her sons, Patrick
and Andrew and their wives, Barbara and Ingrid, respectively; her daughter, Jane and husband Rod Baker; her daughter-in-law, Catherine; grandchildren, Rachel and husband Andreas Liu, Nicholas, Jacob, Carina and husband
Joshua Elling, Elena, Ingrid, Adam, Sonia, Olivia and Eli; and great- grandchildren, Nora and Jerome.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Logan,
and son, Jeffrey.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at First Presbyterian Church, with visitation immediately following.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Community Services League or Grace Hospice.
