AGED MAN SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES RECEIVED IN ACCIDENT

Thomas Hackney, 84, died at 5:30 o'clock Saturday evening in Mercy hospital where he had been confined since last Tuesday following injuries received when he was struck by a coster at West Fifth and Winona streets, a block from his home.
Mr. Hackney rallied several times after the accident but owing to his advanced age was unable to survivethe shock and injuries he received.
He was born in Garryowen, Jackson county, in June, 1840. He came to Dubuque 54 years ago and was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Cunningham, daughter of Mr. and Jrs. John Cunningham of Table Mound township. He had been employed at the city hall for the past 25 years in the capacity of market master and custodian of the city hall building and enjoyed a wide circle of acquaintances. He also served as a court bailiff.
In spire of his advanced years he rarely missed a day except for sickness and was returning home from the city hall when he received the injruies which resulted in his death.
He was a life-long member of the Catholic church and died fortified by its last rites. Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Fannie McClain, Mrs. Maggie Dawson, both of Dubuque and Mrs. William Bennett of Milwaukee; five sons, John and Martin of Dubuque; James, Thomas and William of Milwaukee, also several nephews and nieces. The deceased made his home with his daughter, Mrs. John Dawson, 974 West Fifth street. The funeral arrangements will be announced later.
