Veta Juanita Burd, daughter of Luke and Bertha Calton Myers, was born February 23, 1922, near Phillipsburg, Missouri. She departed this life Saturday, October 20, 2012, in her home, near Phillipsburg, Missouri, at the age of ninety years, seven months, and twenty-seven days.

On December 12, 1946, she was united in marriage to Sylvester C. Burd, and to this union one daughter was born.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Spencer Myers; and a sister, Loreta Bledsoe.

"Ree", as she was lovingly called by her family, is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, Sylvester, of the home; a daughter, Linda House, and her husband, Charles, of Phillipsburg, Missouri; two granddaughters, Cheryl Brown, and her husband, Todd, of Grovespring, Missouri, and Christen Wilson, and her husband, Christopher, of Marshfield, Missouri; a grandson, Brandon House, and his wife, Jessica, of Phillipsburg, Missouri; three great-granddaughters, Molly and Madeline Brown, and Mary Ree Wilson; several nieces and nephews, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

She was born and raised in the Phillipsburg community, and graduated as Salutatorian of the Phillipsburg High School Class of 1940. After she and Sylvester were married, they made their home on their farm, near Phillipsburg, and lovingly raised their daughter. Throughout the years, Juanita was a devoted and hard working homemaker to her husband and family and also helped in the operation of the farm. She had worked at the Tomato Canning Factory in Phillisburg, Missouri, early in her life, and at Nickerson Farms Restaurant for a time.

Juanita was a longtime active member of Phillipsburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she faithfully attended as long as her health allowed.

In her spare time she enjoyed fising, sewing, gardening, and canning her homegrown vegetables. She was an excellent cook and was well known for her cookies, which she could make at the drop of a hat, and especially her delicious chocolate chip cookies and rolls. She was always ready to feed anyone who came to visit, and greatly enjoyed having large family gatherings. Her family was very important to her and she dearly loved her grandchildren and great-granddaughters.

Juanita was a loving mother, grandma, great-grandma, MeMo, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her many accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends.
