Paul H. Rooney Sr., 94, formerly of Renovo, passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at Sycamore Manor in Montoursville.
He was born in Renovo on July 2, 1918, the son of the late John Joseph and Anne Mulvihill Rooney.
Paul was a 1937 graduate of Renovo High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945.
On Feb. 12, 1947, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Renovo, he married the former Helen Pompili, who survives.
Paul was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Renovo and St. Ann's Catholic Church, Williamsport.
He was employed by the U.S. Post Office as an Assistant Post Master.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge, V.F.W., American Legion and Sons of Italy. Paul enjoyed walking, reading, Penn State and Pittsburgh Steeler football and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Paul H. (Tacie) Rooney Jr.; a daughter, Mary Rooney (Dan) Marra; seven grandchildren and six great- grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Maurice, Pierce, John and David; a sister, Margaret; and a special aunt, Ella G. Mulvihill.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Renovo, with Rev. Father Paul Fontanella officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Renovo. Friends and family will be received at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
Flowers will be provided by the family. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Renovo or St. Ann's Catholic Church, Williamsport.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, PA 17745.
