James E. Miller served as a private and artificer in Co. E of the 15th New York Engineers. He received a pension in connection with an injury sustained while working on the pontoon bridge at City Point, VA, headquarters of the Union Army during the siege of Petersburg. James married Sarah Catherine Bush in Shokan in 1872. He died after a 2 week stay at the Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Bath, and was buried the same day in the National Cemetery there.
