Funeral Rites for Bert E. Thornton
Bert Earl Thornton was born November 20, 1884 at Frankfort, Indiana. He was united in marriage to Frances Ferne Edwards, January 1, 1908 at Nashville, Illinois. To this union were born nine children, seven boys and two girls, all of whom are living.

Mr. Thornton had been a resident of Illinois since twelve years of age and had lived in Washington and Perry Counties for the past 38 years.

Death came suddenly, about 6:30 a. m. July 30, 1945, at his home northeast of Coulterville after a brief illness at the age of 60 years, 8 months and 10 days.

He is survived by his wife, Frances, nine children, Forest, Alfred, Eula, Marshall, James, Marjorie, Willard, Leonard and Roger; fifteen grandchildren; four brothers, Jesse and Henry of Decatur, Ill., Glen of Illiopolis, Ill., and Charles of Coulterville; two sisters, Mrs. Maude Perry of Decatur, Ill., and Mrs. Mable Huff of Wilmington, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services were held in the Burns Funeral Home, Thursday afternoon with the Rev. John W. Fowler officiating. Interment was made in the Coulterville cemetery.
