SARA NEE BALL

After almost a century of rich full life centered on family, community, church service, and history, Sara Nee Ball passed peacefully to her eternal life July 24. Born 12-14-06 in Pawnee, OK Territory, just a few months before OK became a state, to John Henry and Ida Bird Cutright Allen. Sara Nee was 4 when her father died and 8 when her mother died. The five orphaned-Allen children were separated, but reunited and remained very close as adults. She married Frank Ball in 1925. They farmed in the West Point community, retiring to Yukon in 1961. Sara Nee and Frank were very involved & supportive of West Point and Yukon schools, farm & community organizations & helped organize the Canadian Co. Historical Society & Museum in El Reno, where she was co-curator for 18 years. They always took time to encourage their own 5 children and many other young people to strive to do their best at school, work, sports, 4-H and in life. Active in every phase of work at Yukon Christian Church where she's worshipped since 1938, her love and faith in God shown through her everyday life as she visited countless shut-ins with home-grown bouquets of flowers, gave rides to doctors and stores, left her front door open to all, and entertained everyone like family. A 4-H leader over 40 years, charter member Mayview Home Demonstration Club for 69 years, member Yukon Ladies Library Club, Peace Rose Garden Club, OK Historical Society, a charter member and volunteer of the Yukon Historical Society and Museum, delivered Mobile Meals, and precinct election worker for years. She spent 14 years researching the history of Yukon and surrounding small towns; then wrote "Yukon's First 100 Years," published in 1990 in time for Yukon's Centennial celebration. Some honors received: 1957 Canadian Co. Farm Family of the Year, 1968 Canadian Co. Homemaker of the year, Outstanding Okla. 4-H Leader in 1950, one of 5 finalists for Okla. Mother of the Year, the H.B. Frank Yukon Citizen of the Year 1989, the Stanley Draper Award for contributions to Okla. Heritage, the 1997 Yukon ABWA Community Woman of the Year, inducted to Wall of Fame at the Yukon Historical Museum.Besides her parents & siblings, she was preceded in death in 1976 by Frank, her beloved life partner for 51 years; son, Richard L. "Dick" Ball; & grandson Bob Belcher. She is survived by children Phil & Lois Ball, Edmond; Eileen & Tom Belcher, Tulsa; Civilla Ball,Yukon; Marjorie Moesel, Okla City; Ruth & Dick Harvill, Yukon; 20 grandchildren, their spouses, children & step children; 9 great great grandchildren; many nieces & nephews and a host of friends she dearly loved. Family will receive visitors Monday evening at Yanda Funeral Home, Yukon, from 6-8PM. Memorials may be given to Yukon First Christian Church or the Yukon Historical Society. A private family burial service will be Tuesday at Yukon Cemetery. Everyone is invited to the Memorial Service at Yukon First Christian Church, Tuesday, July 27 at 2:30PM.
