Donald Dean Phend, 76 of Tippecanoe Lake passed away at 7:45 pm, Monday, October 1, 2012 in his residence.

On March 21, 1936, he was born in Columbia City to Donald and Henrietta (Nelson) Phend. Donald married Shirley World on August 31, 1956 in Forest Park, Illinois.

Donald lived in Columbia City until he got married, then moved to Illinois, eventually moving back to the area 32 years ago. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1954 – 1956 with the military police. He graduated with honors from Ivy Tech, Fort Wayne, receiving a degree in electronics. Donald also worked in construction for many years.

He was a member of American Legion Post #253, North Webster and The Leathernecks Club, Columbia City.

Donald is survived by his wife, Shirley Phend, Tippecanoe Lake; his daughter, Pamela (and spouse Dale) Jonas, Steger, Illinois; one brother, Richard (and spouse Marthene) Phend; three sisters, Pat (and spouse Dave) Katt, Judy Parkinson and Sally Black; three grandchildren, Amber (and spouse Adam), Emily (and spouse Dale) and Brandon; three great grandchildren, Andrew, Zoey and Lilly. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Jeffrey Phend.

Military honors will be given at 5:00 pm, Sunday, October 7, 2012 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw by the American Legion Post #253, North Webster.

Burial will be at a later date.
