Sisters of Christian Charity, died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Holy Family
Convent, Manitowoc.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 14, 2000, at
Holy Family Convent Chapel. Officiating at the mass of Christian Burial
will be Rev. Samuel D. Jadin, O. Praem, with burial in Holy Family
Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
She was born Gertrude Westerman on February 16, 1916, in Creighton,
Neb., daughter of late Anton and Elizabeth Burkhardt Westerman. Sister
Rose Anthony earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from St. Norbert College,
DePere and a Master of Arts Degree from Marquette University, Milwaukee.
She entered the convent in 1930, and professed her vows in 1934. Sister
Rose Anthony served as an elementary teacher and/or principal at Sacred
Heart, Oshkosh, St. John, Antigo, St. Mary, Rhinelander, St. Mary,
Brillion, St. Boniface, Manitowoc, Guardian Angels, Oneida, St. Philip
and St. Bernard, Green Bay, St. Mary and St. Joseph, Waukesha, St.
Gabriel, Neenah, St. Peter, Middleton, Wis., St. Willibrord, Chicago,
Ill., San Xavier, Tucson, Ariz., and St. Nicholas, Zanesville, Ohio. She
also served as Librarian at St. Francis Xavier, Petoskey, Mich., and as
Administrator of Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. Since 1992, she has
been a resident of St. Rita Health Center. She is a member of the
Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; three
sisters and a brother-in-law, Theresa Uhing, Rosemary and Ray Lang, West
Point, Neb., Ella Hoesche, Crete, Neb.; one brother and three
sisters-in-law, Joseph and Betty Westerman, West Point, Neb., Viola
Westerman, Seymour, Helen Westerman, Green Bay. Nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends also survive.
Friends may call Thursday, from 4-8 p.m. at the Holy Family Convent and
a Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m. at the Holy Family Convent Chapel.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral
arrangements.
