Sister James Ellen Woolsey, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of
Christian Charity, age 86, of Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, died
March 11, 2007, at Holy Family Convent.
She was born Bernardine Woolsey, on Dec. 2, 1920, in Detroit, daughter
of the late Peter and Florence Lauck Woolsey. Sister James Ellen earned
a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Holy Family College, Manitowoc, and a
bachelor's of music degree from Alverno College, Milwaukee.
She entered the Convent in 1935 and professed her vows in 1939. She is
a member of Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity. Sister James Ellen
served as an elementary teacher at St. Mary, Hilbert; St. Mary, Kaukauna;
St. Mary, Rhinelander; San Roque, Santa Barbara, Calif.; St. John,
Komatke, Ariz.; St. Benedict, Cambridge, Ohio. Sister James Ellen served
as a music teacher at St. Theresa, Kekaha, and St. John Vianney, Kailua,
Hawaii; Central Catholic, West Point, Neb.; St. Willibrord, Chicago; St.
Ambrose, Ironwood, Mich. and as an instructor of music at Holy Family
College, Manitowoc.
After retiring from active ministry, Sister James Ellen served as a
homemaker at St. Francis Xavier, Petroskey, Mich., and performed various
services at St. Joseph Retirement Community, West Point, Neb.; St. Francis
of Assisi, Greenwood, Miss.; St. Mary, Clarks Mills and San Damiano Convent,
Slinger.
Since 2002, she had been residing in St. Rita Health Center at the
Motherhouse.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14, 2007,
at Holy Family Convent Chapel. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial
will be the Rev. Samuel D. Jadin, O. Praem. Burial will be at Holy family
Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on
Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, where a prayer
service will be held at 7 p.m.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc is assisting with funeral arrangements.
