Grace was born in Tallapoosa County, Alabama in 1896. Her date of birth is recorded as Jan 1896 on the 1900 Census. Her parents were Andrew R. Simmons and Ella Laney. Grace was one of 10 children in the family. Her father was a farmer. Grace had two uncles that she never knew who died in the War between the States. Henry the eldest was an officer and was killed at Gettysburg. His brother, Allen was captured there and died in POW camp at Ft. Delaware. Grave moved with her family to Texas in 1903 and were there briefly then moved on to Hempstead County in Arkansas. She later married Ford Farr. She died tragically with her son from drowning while crossing a river on a ferry in her car in 1920.
