N. Boyd Brodhead, 64, of Stamford, Conn., executive vice president of Parade Publications, Inc., of New York, died suddenly on Thursday, march 1, as a result of a coronary attack suffered while a passenger aboard a train in the vicinity of Lakeland, FL.
He was accompanied at the time by his daughter, Mrs. A.H. Bissell of Cooperstown, NY. Funeral arrangements will be made in Stamford.
He was a member of a family famous in the history of Northeastern Pennsylvania since Revolutionary times. He was a descendant of Capt. Daniel Brodhead, a veteran of the Continental Army who was among the early settlers of the Stroudsburg region. As a young man, Mr. Brodhead roamed the hills and streams of this area and of northern New Jersey where he gained his lifelong devotion to natural lore and outdoor sports, with keen interest in all phases of fishing.
Mr. Brodhead was a leading figure in the magazine world, and was in large part responsible for suggesting to Field Enterprises Inc. that a newspaper supplement largely devoted to pictures could be successful. Since 1940, when this suggestion was made, Parade has grown to a nationally syndicated newspaper magazine appearing in 52 newspapers throughout the United States and Hawaii, with a circulation of nearly 7,000,000. Mr. Brodhead had served as executive vice-president since 1946
