Sister Stella Margaret Verhaaugh, age 84, of the Franciscan Sisters of
Christian Charity, of Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, Wisconsin, died
May 18, 2001 at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc Wisconsin.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Holy
Family Convent Chapel. Officiating at the mass of Christian Burial will
be Rev. Samuel D. Jadin, O.Praem with burial to follow at Holy Family
Convent Cemetery Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
Sister Verhaagh was born November 20, 1916 at Green Bay, Wisconsin,
daughter of the late John and Mary Schadrie Verhaagh. Sister Stella
Margaret earned a bachelors of arts degree from Holy Family College,
Manitowoc. She entered the Convent in 1936 and professed her vows in
1939. Sister Stella Margaret served as a teacher at St. Mary,
Rhinelander, St. John the Baptist, Seymour, St. Joseph, Sturgeon Bay, St
John, Antigo, St. Joseph, Green Bay, St. Anna, New Holstein, St. Mary,
Bloomington, and performed a variety of services at St. Joseph Home,
West Point, Nebraska, St. Theresa, Kekaha, Hawaii, San Damiano Convent,
Slinger, Catholic Memorial, Waukesha and Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc.
Since 1989 she has been residing in St. Rita Health Center at the
Motherhouse, Ozanam Home, New Berlin. She was a member of the Franciscan
Sisters of Christian Charity.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, a sister,
Martha Heim, two sisters-in-law, Genevieve Verhaagh, and Katherine
Verhaagh, all of Green Bay, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 21, 2001 at Holy Family
Convent Manitowoc where a Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home is assisting with funeral arrangements.
