Rites Held For Robert A. Shaver

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10 at the Pine Grove Methodist Church for Robert A. Shaver, 85, who passed away at the Cass County Memorial Hospital on Sunday, February 8, 1981.

Robert A. Shaver was born on May 1, 1895 in Adair County near Bridgewater, the son of John and Mary Chaney Shaver and lived most of his life in the Cumberland and Massena area.

On June 23, 1918 he was united in marriage with Amy Marie Holaday, at the home of her parents near the Pine Grove Church. This union was blessed with the birth of four children: Lyle, Arlene, Marjorie, and Virginia.

He was a member of the Pine Grove Methodist Church and the Donald Lee Post #320 of the American Legion at Cumberland, having served his country in World War I.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Amy who lives at the Heritage House in Atlantic; his son, Lyle Shaver and family of rural Cumberland; three daughters, Mrs. Leo (Virginia) Christensen of West Des Moines; Miss Arlene Shaver of Atlantic and Mrs. Marjorie Edwards of Cumberland; his grandchildren, Delmar Christensen of Des Moines, Tim and Tom Shaver, both of Atlantic, Teresa Shaver of rural Cumberland, Peggy Edwards of Pasadena, Texas, Pam Edwards of Adair and Mark and Patty Edwards of Atlantic. There were eight great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Elsie Porter Stormer of Massena as well as a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Officiating at the services was Pastor Paul Grandon with music by Veronica Lary, pianist and Gerald Harris, soloist. Selections were "Whispering Hope" and "Beyond the Sunset."

In charge of flowers were Mr. and Mrs. Verner Walters. Usher was Wayne Rich.

Casket bearers were Gail Porter, Clair Mattheis, Roger Holaday, David Bissell, and Bruce Kenny. Robert Witt was unable to be there.

The family, friends and relatives were invited to the Pine Grove Church following the interment at Massena Center Cemetery.

Military Rites were by Donald Lee Post #320 of the American Legion in Cumberland and Massena Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
