83, of Troutman, died
Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007 at
Iredell Memorial Hospital following
a brief illness.
Born in Iredell County,
Sept. 21, 1923, he was the son
of the late Charles Franklin
and Lucy Goodin Englebert.
A 1941 graduate of Harmony
High School, he served
in the U.S. Navy during World
War II aboard the U.S.S.
Shelby APA 105. He was part
of the invasion of Okinawa
aboard an amphibious landing
craft. With the help of his
GI bill, he obtained his private
pilot's license, purchased a
plane and enjoyed many
years of flying.
Mr. Englebert retired from
Southern Bell in 1985. During
his 39 years with Southern
Bell he served in many different
capacities, retiring as a supervisor
of motor vehicles. He
was a lifelong member of the
Telephone Pioneers of America.
He was a faithful member
of Campbell Lodge 374 of
Troutman having served as a
master of the lodge in 1960
and 1980. He also served as
District Grand Master. He was
a member of the Scottish Rite
of Free Masonry, the Oasis
Shrine Club and a charter
member of the George M.
Young 305 Order of the
Eastern Star.
An active member of Wesley
Chapel UMC, Mr. Englebert
served as chairman of
the administrative board,
Sunday school superintendent
and teacher.
He loved to travel with his
wife, children and grandchildren,
garden and attend hit
and miss engine shows. In his
later years he found great
enjoyment in retreating to his
mountain home in Sparta.
In November of 1951 he
was married to Beth Simpson
Englebert, who preceded him
in death in September 1999.
Also preceding him in death,
in addition to his wife and
parents, were three brothers,
Ralph, Buster and James
Englebert.
Visitation will be at Troutman
Funeral Home today,
Friday, Sept. 7, from 6-8 p.m.
Funeral service will be at Wesley
Chapel United Methodist
Church at 11 a.m. Saturday,
Sept. 8 with the Rev. David
Reep officiating and Ken
Sherrill assisting. Burial will
follow in the church cemetery.
The body will lie in state 30
minutes prior to the service.
The family will assemble at
the home of Ken and Karen
Sherrill on Rumple Street,
Troutman.
