Hubert Wall McKelvey was killed in action in France during World War II. He enlisted in the Army on Jan. 4, 1943, leaving behind a young wife, Marjorie Lucille Parker McKelvey, whom he had married on Jan. 5, 1940 in Madison County, Alabama. He was a private in the 104th Medical Battalion, 29th Infantry Division. In 1945 the War Dept. amended General Order #303 which entitled the Battalion to bear on its colors, streamers with inscription as follows:

Northern France
Rhineland
Central Europe

The Battalion was also awarded the French Croix de Guerre for its part in the landings at Omaha Beach 6 June 1944.
