In burial records, it lists his name as Sir Walter Scott.
Reason is unknown as possible that someone may have wanted to honor Walter for having similar name that of the famed Scottish writer. His middle name is not known other than having the initial "S".
*** 3 SCOTT brothers in the CIVIL WAR ***
August 1862, Walter's 3 older brothers, Orrin E., William A., and John A. Scott, enlist in Auburn, NY.// Walter was not able to enlist during the war since he was only the age of 13. Orrin was 21, William 18 and John 16.
No proof of age was required but legally should have been 18. Your age was taken upon your word and many under aged men had enlisted at 16 and 17.
Walter married Lida Emery in 1887.
They primarily lived in Weedsport but also spent much time in Oramel, Allegany, NY where his wife's family lived.
Lida was a nurse who's services were needed in many places.
