Born on the E. F. Law farm in the Maple Grove community, RFD 1 Monrovia.
Attended the Maple Grove school and later the Effingham schools.

John E. Hawk, of Effingham, became deputy sheriff of Atchison county Monday when Otis Dierking took the office of Sheriff and Bert Baumener became bailiff of the court in place of Mr. Hawk.
Since last September, Mr. Hawk has served as deputy sheriff and district court bailiff . Before starting to work at the courthouse, he served in the armed forces as a member of the engineer corps for 26 months, worked for highway department several years, and operated a farm for a number of years.
Mr. Hawk married Wilma Bilderback, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Bilderback of Cummings, and they have two children, Kenneth, 13 years old and Karen, 8 years old. They have purchased a house in Atchison at 605 Mound and plan to move there Feb. 1.
The new Atchison county undersheriff is a son of Mrs. John D. Hawk, who is employed at the State Orphans Home.
