The (Jasper) Mountain Eagle, 4 Aug 1886 Obituary.

A sad and untimely death was that of young William Edward Booker, of Uniontown, Alabama, who died at Rutledge on Saturday last. It was only last June that I had the pleasure of seeing young Booker take his diploma at the University of Alabama. He started out in the battle of life a talented, promising young man. Not in many months rolled around however, before a slow fever overtook him, and, notwithstanding everything that loving hands and medical skill could do was done; Death soon placed his cold and relentless hand upon him and robbed a devoted mother and father of their brightest hope. He was a true Christian, in the highest sense of the word, loving and doing good unto all. His friends who knew him best found in him the soul of honor, of character, of generosity and exalted integrity. Among the many sweet memories that cluster about his name, cherished by his old school friends—none stand out with more brightness than his study loyalty to duty. Such a life is beautiful in the legacy of pleasant thoughts it leaves behind.
