Elmer Abel Beck, 86, died Saturday, sept 17, 2011, at the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born Nov 16, 1924, San Diego, Calif., to Abel and Juniatta Beck.
He served in the United States Coast Guard until his honorable discharge in 1947.
Elmer was a lifetime member of Elks Lodge 2190 in Canoga Park, Calif. He served as Chairman of the Architectural Committee of the Star Valley Ranch Association, was an active member of the Planning and Zoning Board for the town of star Valley Ranch, and was also a member of the Star Valley Medical Center Auxiliary as a data processor for five years.
Elmer gave the daily weather report to the University of Colorado and Wyoming for approximately 10 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and crossword puzzles.'
Elmer is survived by his wife Liz Beck; daughters Beth (Doug) Gerwull and Lori Johnston (John Gannon); grandchildren, Brittney (Matt( Ahrens, Andrew Barden, Brooke (Andrew) Mallory, Brianne Gerwull, Autumn and J.J. Johnston.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday Sept 21, 2011, at Marquisvelle United Methodist Church, 5345 NE.14th Street Des Moines, with a 2 p.m. burial at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
