Mary Ellen Dale, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. James Dale was born August 18, 1862, in Boone County, near Lebanon, Ind., where she resided until 1877, when she accompanied her parents on their removal to Kansas. She united the following year with the Church of Christ. On January 9, 1879, she was united in marriage to George H. Bailey at Winfield, Kansas. Eleven Children were born to them, four of whom preceded her in death. One in infancy, Della May in 1895, John in 1920 and Bessie in 1924. With her husband and three children, she came to Oklahoma in 1889. Mr. Bailey homesteaded a farm west of Hennessey, and with her husband she braved the privations and trials of the pioneers. Death found her on the old homestead, the scene of her earthly labors for forty-seven years. After locating in Oklahoma she and her husband became members of the Christian Church and she remained a faithful adherent until her death. A believer in the Lord, a worker in his vineyard, she died as she had lived, a Christian in act and deed.

She is mourned by her husband to whom she had been married 57 years on January 9 this year; seven children, 39 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, one brother and a host of other more distant relatives and friends. Surviving children are: Frank Bailey of Thomas, Okla; Earl Bailey of Sugar City, Colo; and Tarlton Bailey, Mrs. Dave Troyer, Mrs. Rose Grimes, Mrs. Cyrus Craun & Mrs. Byron Craun of Hennessey
