Funeral services for Jess F. Shell, 77, who died Sunday at the Horton hospital, will be held at the Rake mortuary in Horton at 2 p.m. Sunday, the Rev. Clarence Brooks officiating. Burial will be in the Effingham cemetery. For many years he lived on a farm a mile east of Effingham until retiring and moving to Horton in 1943. He was born at Maryville, Mo., Aug. 27, 1875, a son of James F. and Mary Ann Cain Shell, and came to Atchison county in 1898. His first wife, the former Cuma Bohannon, died in 1941. Later he married Minnie Mahan, who survives. The home in Horton is at 1425 First Avenue, East. Also surviving are a son, Todd Shell, Englewood, Calif.; two brothers, Clyde Shell, Atchison, and Earl Shell, Los Angeles, and two sisters, Mrs. Elma McPhilimy, Effingham, and Mrs. L. L. Adams, Springfield, Ill.
