After graduating from Parkersburg High School in 1946 Hank was a wartime veteran of Korean War. On returning home he married the love of his life, Mary. He was a roofer by trade until he retired. He loved bowling and made many lifetime friends there. In the 1970s his compassion for baseball was rekindled when he started coaching little league. He served on the Board of Directors for the Wood County Sports Association for many years. That compassion stayed strong until July 11, when we lost the best Dad and Grandpa in this world.
Surviving are six children: Dixie Barker of Mineral Wells, Jean Thomas (James) of Huntington, WV, Jerry Greenburg (Rose) of Elizabeth, Richard Greenburg (Belinda) of Belleville, Susan Thomas (David) of Parkersburg and Bill Greenburg (Mijee) of Mineral Wells and a sister, Catherine Mays (Robert) of Washington.
He also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, a great great grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary (Moore) Greenburg, four sisters and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be Saturday 11AM at the Hank Greenburg Field on Camden Avenue, Parkersburg with his son-in-law, James Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Merrill Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg and one hour prior to services at the field.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wood County Sports Association for the Hank Greenburg Field, PO Box 3373 Parkersburg, WV 26101.
