A famous contralto for over fifty years, she was the daughter of Reuben Twitchell, bandmaster with Shermans Army on its march to the sea. Kempton began singing in public at the age of 14 and soon after toured Europe and was honored by various rulers. She received gifts from Natpoleon III, Victoria and Victor Emmanuel of Italy. She was a protégé of Rossini and sang in the Paris premiere of his "Stabat Mater."

Jenny died March 14, 1921 in Los Angeles.
