He was born November 28, 1922, in St. Leon, the son of William and Clara (Ellrich) Alig. Harold married Rita Messerschmidt on April 28, 1956, at St. Peters Catholic Church. He was a life-long farmer as well as a well-respected Pioneer seed corn salesman for 35 years. He was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church and for 55 years called bingo at the St. Peters Labor Day Picnic. He loved the game of baseball and enjoyed cheering for the Cincinnati Reds. Harold also loved playing cards and passed that love on to many of his family and friends.
Besides his loving wife of 56 years, Rita, Harold is survived by his children, Garry (Alice) Alig of St. Leon, Connie (Edgar) Andres of St. Leon, Kenny (Ramona) Alig of Brookville, Nancy (Steve) Monday of St. Leon and Penny Long of Brookville; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Besides his parents, Harold was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Alig; and sister, Mae Bischoff.
Funeral mass will be held today, October 17, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peters Catholic Church with Father Humbert Moster officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
