Fourth son of Samuel George and Isabella Louis Howe Carter nee Browne, who are buried nearby. Served in the 51st Foot (The 2nd Yorkshire West Riding) Regiment and the 62nd Foot (The Wiltshire) Regiment. Fought and was wounded in the assault and capture of Bassein, Burma. Was honoured with the best thanks of the Governor General in Council and promoted Captain.
He was later promoted Major 62nd Foot in 1868 and retired on full pay with the honorary rank of Colonel in 1876. Died at Edgefield, St Peter, Jersey. Buried 22 June 1887 at St Saviour's church.
