Leroy McManus, 78 years of age of Midland, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2012.

Mr. McManus was born October 12, 1934 in Mecklenburg County to the late Willis Alfred McManus, Sr. and Carrie Biggers McManus. He was also preceded in death by 12 siblings.

Mr. McManus was the 15th of 16 children born to his parents. He served in the U. S. Air Force from 1951 - 1955 during the Korean Conflict earning a National Defense Service Medal. He was a driver for Carolina Coach for 28 years and then worked with Hartsell Funeral Home for 19 years.

He was a member and past Commander of Black & Phillips American Legion Post 433, a member of Union Masonic Lodge #618 AF & AM, Scottish Rites, and the Oasis Shriners.

The family will receive friends from 10 – 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 24, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Marvin Tyson and Rev. Donald Lisk. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Charlotte. Masonic Rites will be presented by Union Masonic Lodge #618 and military rites will be presented by the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard at the graveside.

At other times, the family will meet at his home.

Survivors include his loving wife, Karen Ann Smith McManus, of the home; his son, Rick McManus (Melanie) of West Poland, Maine; his brothers, Doyle McManus and Paul McManus (Margaret) all of Midland; his sister, Libby Stegall (Benjamin) of Midland; and his granddaughters, Breanna McManus of Portland, Maine, and Alicia Hunter (Steve) of Mechanic Falls, Maine.
