Sister Mary Martin Simko, age 86, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of
Christian Charity, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at Holy Family Convent,
Manitowoc.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at Holy
Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian
Burial will be Rev. Samuel Jadin, O. Praem, with burial at Holy Family
Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
She was born Mary Catherine Simko, March 20, 1914, at Brookside, Ala.,
daughter of the late Martin and Mary Jarabko Simko. Sister Mary Martin
earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Holy Family College, Manitowoc.
She entered the Convent in 1928 and professed her Vows in 1932. Sister
Mary Martin served as an elementary teacher at St. Joseph, Sturgeon Bay,
St. Mary, Hilbert, St. Mary, Algoma, St. Andrew, Manitowoc, St. Mary,
Kaukauna, Holy Rosary, Kewaunee, St. Joseph, Rice Lake. St. Mary,
Waukesha, St. John, Antigo, St. Michael, Whitelaw, St. Wendel,
Cleveland, St. Bernadette, Appleton, St. Joseph, Kellnersville, St.
Mary, Clarks Mills, Wis., and St. Nicholas, Zanesville, Ohio. She also
served in the learning Center at St. Gabriel, Neenah, SS. Peter & Paul,
Kiel, teacher aide at St. Pius X, Appleton, and receptionist at Holy
Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc. She retired to St. Francis
Convent, Manitowoc, in 1992 and has been a resident of St. Rita Health
Center at the Motherhouse since 1997. She is a member of the Franciscan
Sisters of Christian Charity.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; four
brothers and three sisters-in-law, Steve and Ann Simko, Brookfield,
Wis., Ben and Hermine Simko, Milwaukee, Edward and Melrose Simko, Nixa,
Mo., Paul Simko, Sun Lakes, Ariz. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends also survive.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 4-8 p.m. Monday May 1,
at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. A Prayer Service will be held at 7
p.m. Monday at Holy Family Convent Chapel.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with
funeral arrangements.
