Obituary:
E. Bingham, for thirty-three years a resident of the Twenty-third Ward, and one of the constituent members of the Tompkins Avenue Congregational Church, died at his home, 431 Macon street, yesterday. His death was the result of catarrhal bronchitis. He had been confined to his house but two weeks. Mr. Bingham was born at East Haddam, Conn., in 1838, and was for a long time a paper manufacturer of the town. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he enlisted in the Twenty-second Connecticut Volunteers, as private, and was honorably discharged with the rank of first lieutenant. When the war ended he moved to Germantown, N.Y., and started a paper mill, afterwards engaging in the paper box making business in New York City. This he was engaged in at his death. He was deacon and trustee of the Tompkins Avenue Church, during thirty years. He was deeply interested in the Home for Aged Colored People, and had for many years been Superintendent of the Colored Mission School on Atlantic avenue, near Rochester avenue. Ill health alone compelled him to give up this work last March. He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Gabriella C. Smith, and to whom he had been married for thirty-eight years. His son, Charles Tracy, and his daughter, Mary Gabriella, also survive him. The funeral services will be held at his late home tis evening at 8 o'clock, the Rev. Dr. Meredith officiating. The Rev. W.T. Dixon, pastor of the Concord Baptist Church, will also take part in the services. The burial will be in East Hadam, to-morrow.
