German Lutheran pastor who emigrated to America in 1839 with other Saxons. He helped found Concordia College (Seminary) in Perry Co., MO in 1839. First professor of classic languages and history who taught until 1840, when he took a call to Venedy, IL.
He helped in the drafting of the first Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod constitution in 1847, joined the LCMS in 1848.
Pastor at Freistadt, WI; Kirchhayn, WI 1851-1854.
President of the LCMS's Northern District 1854-1872, 1875-1882.
Wrote numerous articles for "Der Lutheraner".
